Four dead and four severely injured passengers were the result of a collision between a speedboat and a wooden craft carrying roughly 20 holiday-makers in a sea region off the southwest coast of the island of Aegina, south of Athens.

The incident occurred on Tuesday in broad daylight and under ideal conditions, according to the coast guard.

The tourist craft sunk after the collision.

The victims so far have been identified as the skipper of the wooden craft, a nine-year-old boy and an adult male, possibly the father of the latter.
